The Resource
Each of the 37 PowerPoint presentations is linked closely to the units of the Key Stage 1 and 2 Science QCA Schemes of Work. Where investigations or illustrations are suggested in the scheme of work, they are included in the PrimaryViewPoint presentation.
The presentations contain a wide range of specially commissioned illustrations, diagrams and animations to help explain particular scientific concepts. A reviewer has commented that "The small animations were very popular as was the photographic quality of the pictures."
Comprehensive and flexible
Much of the digital content that is currently available requires you to spend time searching through it and selecting the most appropriate pieces of text or images. With PrimaryViewPoint, that original selection has been done for you. This means that you can use the material straight away, providing you with a well structured whole-class lesson.
But importantly, you are also able to edit it to your own particular requirements just by using Microsoft PowerPoint. Put in your own results from investigations into the ready-prepared charts and graphs. Get your children to take their own digital photographs and include these in your own personalised version of the resource.
We expect that within two years of using the resource YOUR version will be very different from anyone else using the materials. So you have the best of both worlds. Ready packaged to save you time, but totally editable to ensure you can change things to suit your particular group of children.
Use as stimulus and in plenary sessions
When you introduce a new topic you may want some interesting illustrations to get your children excited and interested. PrimaryViewPoint units have sections which can be used for this.
OFSTED have identified that the plenary sessions are often the part of a lesson that is done least effectively. With PrimaryViewPoint you have clear and motivating illustrations designed to focus children’s learning because you are able to focus on your teaching.
When you want a lively way to summarise the learning use the fully illustrated summary questions to provide the basis for a lively discussion session.

Use to support investigative work
When you want to get ideas from children as to how they might carry out an investigation you need a resource to highlight some of the important features that need to be considered.
When children have actually done a science investigation they need to consolidate the learning by bringing together all their experiences and summarising their findings. Each PrimaryViewPoint unit has sections which can be used for this.

Printing out the resource
You are also able to print out the information in a wide variety of forms. For example you can print each slide out to produce large images for wall displays, or perhaps print out six summary slides as a handout to give to each child to assist in their revision.

Interactive activities
The units also include Interactive Activities which are fully integrated into each PowerPoint presentation. They are ideally suited for children to use with an Interactive Whiteboard. Download a sample activity from the Sample Materials section of the web site.
