Crossword and Key Words

Each unit includes a CROSSWORD and a KEY WORD grid focussing on the important vocabulary of each topic. Each time the activity starts it selects a sub-set of the word bank and creates a simple crossword grid, that is different each time the activity is run. This means that the activity can be run a number of times as either a starter activity or in a plenary session.

The CROSSWORD provides clues to each word, and highlights the part of the grid into which the particular word needs to fit.

The KEY WORDS grid allows teachers to focus closely on the particular scientific vocabulary, giving children the opportunity to fill in the grid by carefully looking at the structure of each word.
